Science and science policy

Science is indispensable for the Dutch economy and Dutch society. Scientific innovation and breakthroughs contribute to social and economic progress, and deliver the new knowledge and insights needed to provide answers to urgent societal issues in fields such as safety, health care, education and infrastructure. universities and research institutes have a key role to play here: they provide the foundation on which an advanced knowledge society can be built; they develop insights and technologies which help resolve societal issues; but they also develop the knowledge that enables us to be continually prepared for future challenges.

AWTI regularly advises government on science and science policy. Examples of topics covered include the value of science, the relationship between a broad knowledge base and key scientific focus areas, the funding of science, the organisation of science, the relationship between government and science, the research infrastructure and the position of women in science.
